Top Latch Allignment / Inadequate Latch Bracket

This morning I put my top up to wash my Sky. When everything was dry I decided to put the top down again. When I went to close the rear deck lid I hit a solid clunk. I checked to see that the top was completely in it's proper place and tried to close it again. Anyway, after several attempts I took my time closing the rear deck lid and discovered that the brack that holds the locking latch for the deck lid was bent and badly out of alignment. It took some doing but I was able to bend it back into position and close the deck lid. The metal used for this application is, in my opinion, inadequate in it's size and strength. I will bring this to the attention of the dealership when I take my baby in for it's first servicing. I'm sure that if this happens too many times and must be bent back into position that the bracket will crack. Has anyone else experienced this? Remember when closing the deck lid if you feel a clunk don't try to close it several times as I did. Look at the alignment and make the adjustment.

Thank you for the tip.. I will keep an eye out for that. I have only put the top up 2-3 times (Have not driven it with the top up yet!! Too nice!). So far -- no problems...
You MUST leave the top latch in the completely open position when storing the top.
If you don't the hook will stick out and it strikes the trunk latch when the top is folded down. It will bend. Read the manual!!!!!! My car is not here right now, but I believe there is also a warning sticker about this on the Sol also.
my sales guy stated the same to leave it in the open position. He told me this the day I took the car. My sales guy was awesome he did so much research and background invest on the car before anyone got theirs. saturn of gaithersburg the best sales management in the country.
Yep, there are several "watch out for clearance" things about the SKY.
1. Leave the latch OPEN when putting the top down
2. Close the trunk lid from the CENTER only
3. Close the Hood only when doors are completely open or shut, not 1/2-way
4. The front bumper is closer to the ground than a typical parking block or curb
5. Your bowling ball bag does NOT fit in the trunk with a ball in it

ok I made that last one up but it doesn't look like it would fit.

there is a sticker that is on my sky under the latch handle, it says to leave it in the open position,
Also When i had my car in to fix the hinge problem on the deck lid they did an adjustment and now it closes and locks very easily... I don't know what they did but there is a solution to the hard to close problem:thumbs:

you can fit just about anything in the Sky trunk...as long as you don't mind what it looks like coming out. A good ban saw will help with the bowling ball problem lickity split (pun intended).
Iffen you put the bowling ball in first and then put your top down it will fit. I got 5 refridgerator pacs of cokes in the trunk at one time plus a weeks worth of vittles. Learned how to pack tight a long time ago.....Skip...squished bananas oh well banana pudding......
Don't pack anything on the sides if you are putting the top down. I had about a 1" thick CD case laying there and ended up breaking 6 CDs. No clearance at all where the top hinges are.
