I have a 2007 Sky Redline (Nov 2006 delivery). One owner! This was before the power seats and bluetooth... and finally upgrading the radio.
I have Monsoon but no CD changer. Current system is underpowered and I want Bluetooth and Apple Carplay (for the integrated waze)

So my Best Buy browsing trip turned into a Pioneer setup (getting installed May 1).
Head unit AVH-2550NEX
And 4 new pioneer speakers (pillar 3.5 and door 6.5)

BUT for now I am not touching the Monsoon Amp, or the subwoofer.
Is this a mistake? just looking to cut some costs for now... see how it sounds and then decide if I need to upgrade those.
The Best Buy Geek squad deal is $200 for all installs for a year, so I can go back later and by amp and subwoofer and have them installed at no cost.

Lastly.. the USB and Aux cables, do people just let them hang down or do you wire into cigarette lighter or elsewhere?

The general consensus that I have picked up from the forums is the the amp is OK, and the problems are with the head unit and speakers.

I am still working on my Android installation, but I am making a new bezel that will incorporate USB and aux input jacks: https://www.skyroadster.com/forums/f2/aftermarket-double-din-head-unit-95413/#post1297729

I got one reply, and it's all I needed! That was part of my thought process in holding off on the amp replacement (other than the $$)... that maybe its good enough for now. And repeating my initial post...since i have paid for a year's worth of installs already I can simply take it back and have the amp/subwoofer added.

Killing me that I have to wait another week! ha

So regarding your bezel... you're melting my brain. I didnt even consider recreating the entire front facia trim down to the Passenger air back indicator. Now I have to consider that myself. Trickier that I have someone else doing the install.

Is that lower panel easily removable on its on (if I wanted to modify it later?)

I wish I knew! I haven't worked out exactly how, but yes, it will be easily removable. I have a complete spare dash assembly, so the fit is worked out pretty well, but I do not have the support structure, so I can't finalize the mounting brackets. The goal is to be able to remove the bezel and then the radio from the front, without repeating the disassembly of the dashboard. As soon as I get the parts for the wiring harness I will start the installation.

Edit: Are you asking about my panel or the stock one? The stock one is removable from the front without taking anything else apart.

My only comment here is that you say the "Current system is underpowered", yet you want to keep the existing amp? You won't get any extra volume (If that's what you mean by "underpowered") by just changing the radio, yet keeping the amp. (Well... unless your new speakers are highly efficient ones.)

I think the factory speakers werent high enough quality, and at higher volume (to accomodate top down higway driving) the speakers were at their upper limit of capabilities, so the sound quality degrades.... and better speakers will handle that better.

or I could be making this up. ha

Sticking with my plan for now and see how it goes. the only big loss of slow rolling would be scheduling a second visit to have installed.

thanks!

I don't know how reliable Crutchfield.com is, but according to their website the AVH-2550nex does not fit in a 2007 Sky. You might want to do a little more investigation to be sure it will fit.

I'm still using the stock speakers and amplifier with my Pioneer 80PRS and the sound quality, clarity, as well as volume are all dramatically improved. No doubt the system could be improved further with new speakers or a new amplifier, but just going with an HU with better electronics is a major upgrade. The stock head unit is absolute trash.

They say it is about 1/8" too deep for the space available.

Lastly.. the USB and Aux cables said:
I just had a new pioneer stereo put in my Sky. There was no auxiliary cable but there is a usb cable. They installed mine so it sits in the glove box. Just need to pull it out if I need it. It’s very long and reaches all the way to me when I’m sitting the drivers seat.

Cancelled

Thanks to those who suggested and looked up the unit on Crutchfield.

I cancelled it based on Crutch saying 1/8th too deep. Couldve picked a different head-unit but I considered this an omen and took a step back to regroup. ha. I'll do more research before making the final purchase The sales guy was adamant his awesome installers could make it work... or at least "Just let Russ have a look at it".... um but they way I see it, the only way they can determine is take my dash off and see that it's 1/8 of an inch too big.

@Ahnuld : I have mine open right now as I make drawings for the brackets I am building. I would be happy to take detailed pictures and measurements for you.

2007 NA Monsoon Sky
I have pioneer MVH-1400x. Purchased from Crutchfield with steering wheel control and Onstar interface. Also got mounting kit. All in about $600. Came with install instructions and while I wouldn’t recommend it for a novice install, wasn’t too bad. Chimes, steering wheel and Onstar controls all work. Sound with monsoon amp and stick speakers is amazing compared to original.
in addition, replaced my cigarette lighter with a USB port for about $10. Attaching pics right after install before I cleaned and polished up. All plug & play. No cutting so can go back to original if desired. Bluetooth, backup, CarPlay - won’t ever look back.
