I realize we have talked about almost EVERYTHING...and I am out of topics and it is getting boring ....it seems the only way to stimulate this forum is to create a self hating thread. That is not going to happen TODAY...can someone be creative?

If I get too abusive the ADMINISTRATORS get angry...but it seems that is only way to keep this FORUM ALIVE. Social Conflict is GOOD at times.

Sorry, not a new idea, but at least it's a little 'bling' to liven the day...



By the way, I DON'T recommend this unless you have a lot of patience. Took about 15-18 hours of work to get to this point (a LOT of sanding with finer and finer grades before polishing) and it's not finished yet!

I had thought the cover was pretty smooth from the factory and would just need polish. Boy, was I wrong.

That is GORGEOUS...it is the simpler things that make me :)....too bad u cannot do that to a 2.4
Can u explain what u did?

Sure you could do this to a 2.4. Looks like he just polished the hell out of it...


...but where he took the picture almost makes it look like it is made of copper or brass...which I would love to have that look..

120 grit on a disc sander to smooth the mold seams and the worst of the molding flow marks. Then hand sanded with 320 wet & dry, then 400, then 600 then 1500. Then a polishing wheel with red and then white compound.

I said it took a long time :)

I have a polished DDM coil cover, to hide the center, but I'm thinking about painting the inside center channel black and leaving the cover off.

It looks amazing...but too AMAZING to do. :thumbs:

I send all my engine compartment bling to one of the top chromers in the country down in Tennessee and have THEM do all that elbow grease stuff. I figure they would charge $300-$400 to 3-part chrome and polish an aluminum valve cover like that.

I have a powder coated cover. It is amazing how much casting flash and tiny beads of alloy stuck to the cover there are. Sadly, the guys that powder coat don't take 10 minutes to remove all that before coating them.

It is also amazing how much time you can spend getting them smooth. I spent quite awhile polishing these MG cam covers before finally having them chromed for upkeep reasons (otherwise they deteriorate and collect white powdery oxidation while in storage).
