What went wrong with the TWO TONE leather?

This may or may not be a stupid post but I'm getting the RED/BLACK LEATHER package but I noticed something is wrong about the two tone package...

In all the ADS as well as Demo models seen at shows the STEERING WHEEL and the FRONT DASH is two toned in either the RED or TAN leather...

Am I wrong to say that all production SKYS that many of you are driving today do not have RED or TAN on thier STEERING WHEEL or FRONT DASH?

And if they are only black WHAT WENT WRONG WITH THIS?

WHY didn't they go ahead and do the TWO TONE PACKAGE like all the press pics and demos had been done?

I'm confused because without the wheel and front dash in two tone I really feel it's missing something!

Whats going on here?

the red dash reflected sunlight in the drivers eyes...a safety factor...
It is still on the steering wheel though. But, reflective or not I would rather have the red dash and deal with it.

I have seen production SKYS ON THIS FORUM with the TAN/BLACK leather package and the STEERING WHEEL is BLACK!

Are you telling me the WHEEL is still RED on the RED/BLACK leather package?

This is wacked!
Yes, I have never seen a tan wheel with the tan interior. But, the red interiors (I've seen) all still have the red wheel.
Just so MEMBERS can see the difference between the RED and TAN leather package...

Here is a pic of the TAN/BLACK...NO Tan on the Wheel. As noted above the RED leather package however DOES have Red on the Wheel...

Why was this done I wonder?

Very strange...

REDSKY-- Do you think that the red interior will fade after 3 to 5 years. I think about our members who live in FL., Texas, Arizona, NewMexico and California writing on this forum about fading seats and dashboards. Leather protection will work, but constant 95,98,101 degrees temps on that red dash would turn it pink. IMHO:cool:
None of us can know for sure if the RED LEATHER will fade after five years...

Seriously I think it depends how much you are driving it but more importantly when you park it are you leaving it all day with the top down to bake in the sun?

If you are I would say you have a much better chance of fading.

Do we know how they did the dying process on the Red leather? I think that would also tell you how it would hold up under the sun and high temps.

In my case...I don't plan on the Sun seeing my leather unless I'm driving it.

When I get out the top goes up and I put a front windshield cover on the dash.
Tell me this, would a custom dashcover in RED be cool? The guys at Kappasphere want to know our thoughts on aftermarket products. I would give them a call and see. If its not already being planned, then maybe with enough interest, they might produce something for us.

I think they discovered a glare problem with the Red.

They never ever showed a Tan dash or steering wheel, it was just the red ones, the red dash was on one of the first pre production Show cars that they used for the photos in the first ads and brochures.
I think that the red glare is a bunch of bull. I had a BMW Z3 with a red dash and there was no glare. Since the demand was great, I think it was more cost effective for GM to just have an assembly line with all black dash boards. I got one of the early Sky's (#11 delivered to a consumer in the US) with a tan interior and was very dissapointed that it did not have the two toned steering wheel. GM should follow it's advertisments or at least advise the consumer. Anyway, I love the car just the way it is.
It was only a cost cutting measure for GM. I have a Nissan with tan interior...everything, dash and wheel included is tan...no reflection problem. The wheel does seem to show dirt easily and has to be constantly cleaned though.
Could it be that when they got to a test production run with the red dash the color was way off? Curious.

I happen to be very happy with the red on the seats and wheel. The black dash looks just right to me.
Opel GT Product Info

In our actual Opel GT product info for Germany / Europe there are two options:

leather seats and dashboard and steering wheel in black
or
leather seats and dashboard and steering wheel in red/black combination.

Here is the link:

http://www1.opel.de/gt/images/opel_gt_product.pdf

At the end of the first page you can see the red/black steering wheel and the red/black dashboard in the background.

Translation of the text:

Interior design

- steering wheel leather and shift knob leather
- seats cloth black
Optional
- leather seats and dashboard in black or choosable in colour combination red / black

If the Opel will get a red/black dashboard I'm sure you can get it also in US at least for the RedLine.

that could also have something to do with the angle of the windshield.....

have you not noticed the reflections in the windshield from the piano black? Like I said in the previous post, you also have to consider the angle the winshield is to determine if the reflections will be a problem...
Mis-communication?

Could it just be the marketing and manufacturing folks did not communicate well enough?

Actually I would guess it has something to do with when the dashboard is incorporated into the chasis and or the amount of storage space required to keep both black and red dash sub assemblies on hand.

If you have many cars of each color in the pipeline just waiting for interior and other options with a dash than you can wihtout a dash then it coudl be a simple scheduling, timing, space issue.

....
Communication maybe one point, for my person I think I don't beleave anything of that pre-informations until the first cars arive in europe.

Another thing is what marketing want's to sell, for example no sunburst yellow with cloth seats (no technical reasons).

Technical you can build every variation you want. In Europe most plants are made for multi model production, that means you can assemble different cars in a free order with all the options the customer wants.

Nevertheless you can't buy what you want because the marketing puts the possible parts in option packages - thats for optimizing profit.
As soon as I saw the red topped dash I knew the SKY would not have it in a real car. The glare from that would be tremendous! For safety reasons it had to have been removed.
In addition it would fade - get even lighter and the glare would increase.
