HELP! Extreme vibration, shuddering

So im driving down the highway on my way to work. Going about 60mph in 5th gear. I try and accelerate to about 65 and notice every time i hit the gas there is a slight vibration, almost same the kind of vibration you get when your going too slow in a gear...that virbration. So i say lemme slow down and shift to 4th.

Slow down to and see if that helps, Im going maybe 45 in 4th gear, and still feel the vibration, I think maybe its something with the gears so I throw it in neutral let the car roll to a stop still feel INTENSE vibration. Also notice that as its vibrating the shifter is bobbing up and down (in neutral). I turn the car off check the tires, no flat. Start her up and pull off in 1st (seems ok) give more gas notice the vibration, hit a bump in the road and its shaking SO bad i cannot see out my rear view mirror.

Any idea's what I could be dealing with here?

2007 Saturn Sky just hit 60k miles, Manual, Cold air intake, no other mods. Never had a problem....till now

Yep Lungs super tight, I had no idea what it could be. I can barely get the car to 60mph. It still handles normally also. Engine purrs like a kitten. I dunno im lost

I'd agree with checking the tires. When I put on new tires one of my rears was left loose and the symptoms were exactly the same -- it was so bad I pulled over on the freeway. Make sure you jack the car up when you check as the tires felt perfectly tight when I checked them with the car pulled over.

if the shifter is moving a lot more than it was previously, check the motor mounts. There are instances where one has failed allowing the motor to move in an unintended fashion.

Check the wheel mounting bolts. Not the studs, but the three bolts that hold the wheel assemblies on the car. There are instances where they have come loose and even a few cases where some were lost. If one of the wheels is suffering this problem than it might explain your issue.

Check the U joints. Vibration in the drive train can result if a U joint has failed or the bolts are loose or missing. This can also cause loss of seals on the transmission and or differential.

Good luck

Ok so i took my car to lunch thinking maybe i will just tighten all the lugs and everything would be ok....wrong.

So even at low speeds 5-10mph the car feel like its DRAGGing something. I mean DRAAAAAGGING. Also theres some sort of knock coming from under the car behind me, like knock, knock, knock and they Knocks are synced with my shifter bobbing up and down, the louder the knock the more the shifter bobs (even in neutral) shifter looks like its going to jump out of there its moving up and down so much.

There is no grinding sound like when you shift into the gear halfway or anything like that. its more of a dragging feeling. Like if you've ever forgot to downshift and your going 20mph in 4th gear and hit the gas, its that dragging feeling but x10

I am going to agree with the CV on the driveshaft.

With my jeep being lifted, i've run into that a couple of times due to improper driveline angle.

I would recommend that you stop driving it as that can get hairy if it seizes completely

Yea im not going to drive it till i get her fixed, i've already fired up the 96 Saturn Wagon.

How much does a CV Drivetrain fix cost? Ball Park? Or is this a DIY job?

Drive shafts have "U joints", I meant the 1/2 shaft (Stub axle), 1 of things that connect the diff to the wheel. How ever, it could also be a U joint, both can be DIY and not too expensive,.....

I call the driveshaft the part that connects the transmission [Or Tcase depending on vehicle] to the differential

I call axle shafts the part that connects the differential to the wheels

Most Driveshafts have a single cardon vs a U-joint. I actually have never looked on ours.

I have swapped numerous ones on jeeps and trucks due to the fact that I fit under them without putting it on a lift or jack stands.

My last heacy duty jeep drive shaft with a double cardan joint cost me $300 so they are not too expensive. Good U-joints are around $20.
